Health Information and Animal Care

In order to maintain healthy animals we must address diet, exercise, genetic factors and health care practices. I believe in taking an holistic approach to health care.  My dogs are fed a healthy fresh food diet, exercised daily and minimally vaccinated.  I strive to keep their immune systems strong so they are less prone to illness and disease.

Here I will provide links and information that have helped me develop the optimal plan for maintaining the health and well being of my dogs. Please keep in mind that this is what works for me. I, in no way, make any recommendations about how you should treat your animals.  What I do recommend, is that you educate yourself about diet, exercise, vaccinations, medications and treatments in order to make the most educated decision about the health and well being of your companion animals.

All the Seaborn breeding stock will undergo evaluation and testing of stifles, thyroid, hips and eyes according to the guidelines set forth by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).  All test results will be stored in the OFA databases.

We are fortunate in that Silkys are not afflicted with many health issues. As Breeders, we have a responsibility to breed the healthiest animals possible. Testing and genetic pre-screening, combined with a healthy lifestyle, are essential to a responsible and successful breeding program.
By testing our breeding stock and documenting the results, we will work to maintain the health and well-being of the Silky Terrier breed for many years to come.
